I'm getting it in both Chrome and Internet Explorer.

It's possible that it's an intentional change; many websites intentionally use only a middle strip of the screen.

If it's intentional, I'd like to state a preference for widening the middle frame.

There's a functionality issue, though -- when I go to the front page TRs, they lay out incorrectly (in Firefox) and the right-side end of each page gets cut off.

My guess: it is because of the new user MBPostMaintainance.
Once they are off the front page, my hunch is the page will be back to normal.

Normalcy would be a great thing to have right now.
Hey, can some "computer nerd" please tell me what 'Google Chrome' is ? This is what I'm thinking...

That's what I was guessing as well, and now that the user is off the front page, your hunch seems to have been confirmed.
