So, WHY didn't somebody say we were going WIKI in the first place ?

Instead, we have 23 pages of members batting around ideas, and the runner hasn't even reached third base yet ..

I admit the biggest conflict of this thread was created by the statement "True wiki-style where anyone can add or edit".

I knew from the word Go that this would never happen. But it seemed to have create a paranoia of any changes would be considered "bad" in fears that pages could be damaged.

Agreed with the above poster. Although I love this site, I gotta say that until something is done, don't be surprised if better websites out there start making people swap over. Remember what happen to Myspace? Facebook took over.

By the way, I never plan to leave SummitPost. As I said in another thread, if anything crazy happens, I'll probably be one of the last ones standing. 8)

Well put Josh...except I may be the last one

I will never head over to Mountain Project...thought it would be useful until I realized the type of people that are on that site...and what they do. Not interested

MountainProject from the pages I've seen is lacking in the alpine information department. Perhaps I've only looked at the mediocre pages. But then again I haven't looked much at the technical routes which that site seems geared toward. 8)

As for who would be the last one standing, if an admin pulls the plug you have no say.

Had a quick look on the Tatras and the Pyrenees on Mountain Project. Not even 1% of SP.
However, the comparison isn't possible, MP is meant to be only for rockclimbing ("meant", because I see miscellaneous content unrelated to climbing). MP doesn't seem to have also the hierarchical taxonomy structure (with all its plus and defects we know) on SP, and I don't like the classification "per country". Even 10 years older, SP is still more advanced and more visionary in terms of development.

The fact I do not have any pages and haven't "climbed" anything... but ......this page seems like it is ready to be odopted.
VitaliyM and Noonduler come to mind. Has been 2002 since an update and needs beta?
