The SP facebook page accurately reflects the amount of effort put into developing improvements and improving the overall site.

I thought about making this page a while back, but figured most of the folks here are not much of facebook fans. Add a background, give it a bit more color like AlpineAscent: http://www.facebook.com/AlpineAscent 8) (just friendly suggestions to spark more awareness)

Well did you start it? I don't know... I was asking.

Yes I see the quote. I am not on FB so I really don't know how that gets there. I doubt the page will get much traffic anyway.

What happens if you join FB, is that you eventually see more of a page than if you are not registered. But it's not the case here.

Uhmm...exactly. Isn't FB/Summitpost and SP.org repetitive? I don't use Facebook but I think SP is a "Facebook" for hikers.climbers. alpinists, trekkers, photographers, campers, backpackers, dreamers..........but far more mature than facebook

Ok, so I was given administrative privileges to the page. I added a logo and a cover image. 8) Let me know what folks think. I can add more if people give requests. I would have used a top rated photo from SP, but there is the whole permissions issue. So I used my own.

Josh, what do you expect this page will do? Is it supposed to increase awareness of the main SP site? I'm guessing that most people find SP when they google for info on specific peaks or routes.

Well that was one of the reasons I didn't create the page itself. But it's got a couple of cute little things:
1. It does slightly increase public awareness of SP
2. People can more easily find other SP'ers on facebook. I've already had a few people "friend me" from this post. :)
3. It's better that the name be used for the real SP rather than if some one made some "fake" SP. :P (I know, very weak point)
4. And most importantly... why not? I don't see it harmful to SP in any way.

Looks more like a Josh Lewis promotional page than anything that promotes SP. It has Lewis's propaganda all over it.

Lame.

Awww C'mon! :P Your no fun. Whaaaa.... I posted 2 pictures of mine on the page. The logo says SP on it and is not of me. I figured a logo was in order, I could place in the plain SP logo if that's what folks want. I can't just go out using other people's photos from this site.

So from what I gather your interpretation of the page is lame, or make some legitimate suggestions.

I say give Josh a break. Pretty much every organization or cause or movie or song or idea now has a stub page on Facebook. What's wrong with that? It's basically advertising for Summitpost...before we get too cynical we should remember that all of us heard about this site somewhere, and today Facebook is a pretty big Somewhere on the web. I'd say we should welcome the chance for more climbers (young climbers?) to hear about Summitpost and come check it out...Facebook isn't the worst place to find them.

So thanks Josh. Josh, you have permission to use any of my photos there, then maybe it'll be an mvs propaganda page...which would be amazing, IMHO :D.

Thanks folks! I redid the background and logo. BTW very nice shot mvs! :D So it turns out the owner of the facebook page quit facebook. :? So I guess I'm the new owner considering that there are no other admins. If anyone wants to be an admin, let me know.

I wonder if the recent Facebook stock plunge has anything to do with the huge Summitpost controversy.
