Here are two changes to profile pages I'd like to see:

First, putting albums after trip reports and articles. Albums are probably the least important objects on the site.

Second, and more important, it would be great if there were at least an option to sort our submissions by alphabetical order rather than by creation date. For people who have lots of pages, it is a hassle to look through the list to find a page one needs to update. Sometimes, using the search engine is actually faster.

Change is good but sometimes TOO much change and complicating programs can make things worse and far more difficult than they were prior to the change.

I don't always agree with Mr. Chief, but in this case I agree with the above. The primary complaint with SPv2 seemed to be that it was too complicated and not simple enough. Be careful not to complicate things too much.

One thing to keep in mind is that if route pages are used properly, people will actually print them out and use them. I hope at least some people actually use my route pages. I wouldn't want them to have to use their entire printer cartridge to do so.

I may be almost alone on this, but would a Trip Log or Wish List being an appropriate new object type?

I like them and think it would be fun to look at ones submitted by other's (especially if they have mutual interest on peaks to climb or we crossed paths without knowing).

http://www.summitpost.org/2011-trip-log/690759

Of course they can still be added as Custom Objects, but I wonder if a separate page type would encourage more.

On the other hand, maybe a lot of members (?) wouldn't want to encourage more such pages thinking them too facebookish or something(?).

Maybe not enough people would be interested though, it was just a thought. I wouldn't want to suggest implementing something that the majority of members might not like.

I think so. But should they count for points as well?

No!

BTW I posted a new layout proposal for the home page in a new thread.

Wish list should not count as points. Yes it shows people what you want to do, but it does not provide beta. However I do like the idea! :D

My proposal of how it could work:
On any mountain page/ object it has a link on the left side bar that says "Add to your List" or something like that. This link would allow you to add that object to your list. But unlike traditional attachments, the mountain would appear on your list, but on the mountain page itself it would not display for others in the hierarchy. This would allow you to have a nice list that has the mountain title, primary image, and some text. Kinda like the frontpage. You could have it show 500 or so characters from the objects on that list. That way it would like like this: http://www.summitpost.org/featured-trip-reports
(except in page form and be able a nice description above). If you had a page like "Goals for 2011" it would then be easy to remove once it served it's purpose. This would make goal sharing highly organized. :)

Regarding the FAQ link, I think red would not look so good. Yeah it is obvious, but it would get annoying after a while.

Personally I wouldn't care. They definitely shouldn’t show up on the front page though.

On any mountain page/ object it has a link on the left side bar that says "Add to your List" or something like that.

That would only work if the mountains on the Wish List were on SP. I wouldn't like that part. Plus, if people would take them off every time they completed the climb. Unless people kept it current, it wouldn't be useful.

On second thought, maybe the Custom Object is the way to go. On Plans and Partners there are a bunch of people asking for partners for stuff back in 2008 or whatever; "I am looking for partners for XX mountain in July 2008". Wish list could go the same way if people didn't maintain them. It might not be a good idea, so maybe scratch that.

Your right. However the other method that was described was to do it all manually all together. That would require more maintenance and would be more work to put together. The method I was describing is more automated. Then for mountains that were not on SP, they could include in the upper description.

The one thing that I admire about MTN PROJ is the fact that it SIMPLE and too the point when it comes to ROUTE and PROFILE pages.

I truly hope to god that the Elves and Matt ARE NOT considering implementing the front page to look anything like Josh Lewis's Profile page.

If that indeed is in the works, then you all can start deleting my stuff & dump me immediately.

I will have no part in such a circus of a page.

The front page should actually look like the Chief's profile pic, complete with the *******So you wanna be a climber....*** part. At least it should be like that for a day or two.

I've never seen anyone so passionate about my profile. Chief, don't worry about that. It would put my article out of business if the profile had a background.

Was thinking of making that the new SP logo actually....

In all seriousness, I think that would be hilarious, at least for just a day or two.

@ The Chief: I give people the freedom of choice. I provide as much beta as I can when creating pages. However when I go out into the mountains there are times where the beta is completely available, but I choose not to read a single sentence. I agree that it's more fun that way. However, I stand by the principal of encouraging folk to get out and climb. If the info encourages folks enough, then it served it's purpose. Plus if one gets lost, it's nice to have just in case.

Well, Larry the SP Forums Muse, at least if that video is from the 96-97 Reunion Tour, we're listening to the One and Only Ace Frehley play guitar and not that Tommy Thayer guy.

I am tired of looking at the same old photos on my profile page. I know this is due to the score of the images. Is it possible to to at least have the option to choose?

In order to help you having other pictures appearing on your profile page, I have just downvoted all 27 images currently appearing on you profile. If a few other altruistic members can do the same, that would definitively lower their score and solve your problem. (just kidding)
