Starting soon, SummitPost Version 4 is planned to be in the making, and hopefully published by winter time. I'm not publishing the entire list, but here is quite a few changes that are planned/considered:

Features:

Front Page:

  • 4 Sections for TR's instead of 3
  • Allow Elves to Feature all Page Types
  • Photo of the Moment link to All Photos of the Moment Page
  • Photo of the Day/Week text link to the albums
  • Show Route Name with Parent in parentheses

Additions:

Styling:

  • Remove Hover Color for Search
  • Top 14 images: Remove [] and it's underline. Replace it with size 13px text, a background, and a nice hover
  • Removal of Edit Profile Brackets as well as top 27 image brackets
  • Edit Profile Changed to a Tab
  • Removal of Box Shadow around "i" icons
  • Styling for Pagination
  • Alignment Classes should be added and replace the align attributes

Search:

Bugs:

Needs Fixing:

  • .bmp should convert to .jpg for resized
  • Page Admins Should not be able to hijack pages
  • Forum Section needs header tweaking
  • Change Profile Section ordering (albums being ranked too good for example)
  • Old Editor does not Display Map
  • Formatting when Displaying Bubble for Google Maps Objects
  • Remove Under Contruction on Images
  • Editor doesn't swap when using old one on Images
  • Image Versions do not need to be saved after each edit
  • 1 Hour to process re-uploaded images?
  • This page has been deleted. (needs margin-top: 5px or have it not be display: inline)

List Views:

  • Font terrible in google Chrome
  • Show Last Edited First instead of ABC order
  • Width more Flexible

Content Editing:

  • Change Editor Swapper to Tabs

Create Page:

  • In List Views have a link to create a page for that Category

Profile:

  • Top 27 Changed to display "My Images (#)" instead of "See all of my 3924 Images"
  • Change the additional top 27 images into tabs
  • Add a new link called "Popular"
  • Optional Section called "Images to Display" which display images that the user wants to display in the image section (http://summitpost.uservoice.com/forums/ ... tures-sele)

Printing:

  • Print mode needs to be better (strip images)

What's New:

  • Constant Content rather than Updating Every 5 Minutes
  • Display should not have a time constraint

Under Review:

Have something you believe should be added? Voice you opinion in this thread. If it's beneficial to SP, there is a good chance it can be added to this list.

Copy email to self (checkbox)

Is it going to be possible to respond to emails?

Also, several countries are still missing from the drop down.

Other than that, I have no comments other than to keep everything simple.

Of course! :D Forgot to add that to the tracker. It's now put in as seen above.

Do you happen to know the missing countries? Once listed I can put them in the tracker.

There are more, but off the top of my head French Polynesia. Also, Trinidad and Tobago appears as Trinida.

When I have time I could go through the list and come up with whatever else is missing.

One other thing I thought of:

I don't know if it's a good idea to spray a bunch of beta on too many caves. I hope this doesn't cause some debate, but personally I'd advise against it.

Please consider making the bulk uploader only work with beta pages. People are still dumping dozens of pointless photos on the site at a time, and the bulk uploader just makes it easier for more people to do so.

Search
•work with mtn, mountain, peak (interchangeably)

Also should ignore Nevado, etc. These terms should also be ignored in alphabetizing lists.

Josh-

If you show editors on the page then the issue with Admins being able to hijack pages goes away. The only difference between editors and admins is the latter is shown on the page and can change privileges. Fix it so editors can be displayed and then the owners can just make folks editors.

Also consider making it so that the history always keeps the last version by the page owner. This would prevent a vindictive editor from erasing all text and then deleting histories or making enough edits to delete the older histories that way.

I know that scenario sounds far-fetched, but we have had a couple issues like that in the past.

Plans and Partners needs to either be redone or remade

A couple years back we meant to remove that entirely and just use the forums. Now that there is a forum for plans and partners, why not just do away with the non-forum feature for both simplicity and to encourage use of the forum for it? Those forums haven't been getting too much activity.

I agree. Ditch the Plans and Partners as it is just a distraction. The forums are available now.

Also on the page histories. Would be good that the last version by any owner is permanently saved. Not the last three versions by whoever they happened to be done by.

One minor quirk that might need fixing:

If a post has a poll in it, it doesn't show up on the front page like the other post. Personally, I find some of the polls interesting.

Page Admins Should not be able to hijack pages

Can't understand why anyone would make someone an admin if they didn't trust them not to hijack.

In the same area though - How about returning the possibility of co-ownership. My wife and I work collaboratively on many pages but under the current system one of us must be the "owner" and the other an admin in order for both names to show on the page. Points should also be shared by co-owners.

I've once suggested this to distribute points...

Sole owner: 100%
Owner and admin: 67/33
Owner and two admins: 50/25/25
Owner and three admins: 40/20/20/20
Owner and four admins: 33/17/17/17/17

Basically just count the owner as double what an admin has. The idea here being to make it a small enough impact so that the owner shouldn't care about this (assuming they do to start with), but enough so that someone won't have issue with being a lowly admin.

And perhaps editors could have edit rights, display on the page, and no percentage of the points. If both admins and editors are maintained then there should be some difference or usefulness for the distinction.

Respectable SP members who were high contributors have hijacked pages from other good SP members. So in general this isn't a problem, but every blue moon the elves have to step in to these situations where someone throws a hissy fit and takes back their toys.

@Mr. Chad, one of my points above says "Point Distribution of page admins/editors" which even references your UserVoice post. However you explained the detailed. I however would even more like to see Fred Spickard's idea implemented. Sometimes we have to fight over pages with climbing partners. But either way I'd be happy (admin points or joint ownership).

@Scott, great point out! I've had this issue in the past myself which is why I stopped posting polls all together for public opinion. A shame, but it had to be done for SP's best interest. So I'll mark that in the tracker.

We should definitely not use polls in the forums to determine opinion on site development matters. Anything we can do to further engage people and get more ideas is great. But polls are more likely to get an over representation of people who read the forums and not the larger quantity of members who look solely at site content.
