Agreed. That's what it all comes down to.

Although there is some good stuff there, Mountain Project seems to have poor quality control and a lot of bad pages (at least in the areas I frequent, such as southern Utah). As in a huge percentage. There doesn't seem to be much quality control there, but I don't use it that often. From a quality standpoint, I'd hate to see SP go the way of Mountain Project.

On Mountainproject, if you see issues, how about you send an email to the area/route owner with CC to the area admin?

I'm not that active on Mountainproject anymore and the last thing I need to do is to get active on another online site. I'm already active with four. I still occasionally check in with MP. I wish many of the routes added to MP would be added here as well.

Anyway, I am quite impressed with the honesty of some people posting some of the stuff on MP. It did make me crack a smile.

PS, I don't think Mountain Project is a bad site, and they still have lots of good stuff, but I think they need more quality control (then again so does SP). I hadn't visited lately, but just did and noticed that quality has gotten better than it used to be, so maybe my judgement needs updating.

I am happy to say that one page I was thinking of that used to be bad has been resubmitted. I was going to use it as an example, but a new page is up.

http://www.mountainproject.com/v/window ... /108070368

The old page said something like it's just a scramble, but maybe take a few cams if you're a poor climber, or something similar.

Here's an except from a "route description" up Elephant Butte:

I can't even give a "crap" description, for I haven't a clue;....I just followed someone who knew the way.....See Eric's Desert Rock, p. 199, and good luck!

SP has a lot of bad pages too, but it does seem to be active in trying to weed them out.

MP is a nice site, but still I don't see the advantage of making SP like MP. Why would we want to duplicates sites anyway?

I'm not talking about duplicating MP, there's already enough dilution of data across so many climbing sites.
But looking at what works on other sites (any) is always an easy way to improve SP.

If I want technical rockclimbing info I'll go to MP, no second thoughts.
For peaks and alpine routes SP has a lot of detailed beta not found elsewhere.

And may this joy last forever

I'd rather have 5 stars than the "Butt-hurt Report Form" ... I don't like to fill out unnecessary paperwork.

If folks are getting so disillusioned and worked up over power points, perhaps we should keep them confidential :?: Can I have my cookie now .... 8)

I completely agree! :D Same principles for "noname" and "user profile image". If these filters were applied, I think it would help the situation a bit. Yes stuff would float through, but it would be a lot more relevant in my opinion.

My profile hasn't displayed power in over a year! :D Unless I changed something temporarily. I decided it was much more fun to show "Adventure Level = High Alpine". 8)

Regarding MountainProject. They allow quality to fall pretty low, Mount Baker could be so much better. SP wouldn't put up with this. :)

Exactly what I was talking about, the routes listed for Mount Baker are snow routes nothing too technical (WI2-3 is pretty moderate). Even if Baker had more technical stuff it wouldn't get as much detailed info as SP, just how to get there, important info the rest will be listed in the route descriptions and their comments.
Summitpost IS a better source for areas like Mount Baker, scrambles in the Sierras, etc.

Coming back from JT and RR, MountainProject app was tremendous help finding route info beyond the guidebook.
Sorry if this is a bit off topic but when talking about quality and improvements. SP should produce offline viewable condensed route data, including topo overview. Because of the iPhone, it should probably be an application since I don't think pdfs can be saved and viewed away from coverage.

That would be nice for sure. Iphones can't save pdfs? I thought they were supposed to be a mini computer. I'm not doubting any claims about it not, but am disappointed if one can't. I don't suppose you could test this?

.pdf's can certainly be saved and viewed on Android devices. I use it routinely to save copies of maps, permits, reservations, etc.

Perhaps we should have some sort of download page feature. If not a PDF, we could have a .html version. Also in SP Version 4 I'm hoping to have options for printing. :)

Seems like the photos that pop up on POM or Featured Photo, etc should be from members that have been active. No? Is there a way that if there has been no activity over say 6 months or a year that their material isn't "found" and posted ?
