My brother and myself are going to Canada this month for a little over a week and will be spending a few nights in banff, lake louise and jasper. I've never been to Canada and would really appreciate a locals advice on some day hikes. We are both in good shape so the only real qualification is that it needs to be a day hike. Thanks!

The hike that stands out in my memory, is in Yoho.

Take the shuttle bus to the Lake O'Hara Lodge. Unload. Gawk, stunned with mouth open. When you've stuck the eyeballs back in your head, hike up to the Abbot Pass Hut on Mt. Victoria. It was BEAUTIFUL. I posted photos under my profile (fyi).

You might want to check out hiking to the Stanley Mitchell Hut, that was pretty cool, too. Not as jaw dropping gorgeous, but a very decent hike all around (especially if you are interested in glacier moraines).

A hike I never did, but heard was good, is going to the Moraine Lake Lodge.

Yes, I imagine that is true. We went up to the hut in late September and got caught in a mini blizzard.

it was fun

Well I would recommend Mt Fairview at Lake Louise. Great views and doable even if there is some snow on the trail. Starts from the Lake Louise Hotel visitor parking lot.

On a nice day.

Another nice Yoho day hike is the Yoho Pass - Burgess Pass circuit. It starts at Emerald lake. There are so many possibilities! Have fun.
