Fall colors in Washington State 2009

A number of people back east have called me to tell that fall foilage in Washington State is garbage compared to back east. We know differently and it is time to give Washington State the props it deserves. I have setup an album to show the east coast and the world the best we have. But I will need your help as the fall season unfolds.

If you have great fall shots put them up in this album and show the world our beautiful fall colors.

All pictures must be of 2009!

Great idea! Having lived back east (Massachusetts specifically, the most beautiful area of all for fall colors!), I can truly compare the two.

While the colors of the trees in the east during falltime are much more spectacular than most areas here (sorry, but it's true), the mountains truly can compare...the sight of the burning red blueberry leaves covering a meadow, with the larches turning yellow and the ash trees a beautiful orange, it really is very similar. As soon as it gets into the subalpine, a concept nearly unknown on the east, everything is wonderful and it really does look very much like the east.

The fall colors around here are NOT garbage!

The first round of larches is up. They come from Pyramid Mountain east of Lake Chalen

SWEET

I can't wait for it to hit the Darrington area and the North Cascades, the blueberry bushes will turn to fire and the ash trees will change to a beautiful orange!

Ed, is that you? From a fellow PA boy.

I am from PA (Uniondale), but I am not Ed.

I have climbed in a larger group with a guy named Ed from NE PA, but in retrospect, he's older than you. I'm from Philly myself, and a long-suffering Eagles fan.

More larch photos added to the album. I want to encourage everyone to add their fall foliage photos to it.

I have had some questions about this album. This is a public album which means that you can enter pictures of fall colors as well. If you have 2009 fall foliage shots I more than encourage you to enter them in the album. Also the berry bushes and the larches are now going into peak season so start taking some pictures.

Picked Huckleberries a couple Sundays ago near Indian Heaven on a beautiful, slightly-fallish day. Got a fair amount while tramping around. No photos, but the colors were beautiful and reminded me of Alaska.
To all those who've been playing and camping out, recently and presently, I say, I'm very FUCKING Jealous!!! And pissed that I"m not out there as well.
But I also say, Enjoy!

Thank you very much JKuresman and 2_climbaxes for adding some spectacular shots to the album. Some of those picture were mind blowing. I am looking forward to this weekend when I can add more awesome pictures. I added a couple tonight from my Newton Cave trip with Gimpilator.

I want to thank evryone who participated in the Washington State Fall 09' Album. This album truely represents the beauty and diversity of fall leaves in this amazing state. Though there are some still some pretty fall trees out there, the bulk of the season has passed. I couldn't have shown the colors without all of you helping out. I think we proved all doubters wrong. Washington is a great place to be and fall is a special season here just as in any other part of the country. Thank you for showing the world this special place.

And for those who think this is a one time thing, This was an average year. Can you even imagine the color on a good year (like last year).
