Larch season has started. I also want to give many thanks to all of those who have submitted their September pictures to the Fall Colors in Washington State Album. This September we really nailed it with the color of the berry bushes. But October is when some of the best color comes out in the larches and later in the month the lower elevation decidious trees. Keep the pictures coming. The album really is showing how specail fall is in Washington.

Thanks for added a number of awesome larches photos to the fall album Tangeman. I hope to get to the larches this weekend. Graham and Pyramid are awesome mountains to go to for larches. This album is really kicking butt.

The problems with colorfull photos in Washington/Oregon is a lot of us climb too high. Most of the really good colors are down lower - like 2,000 ft. Oh well... enjoy the pretty "frosty" looks during the fall.

Here's two for the east side of Mt. St. Helens - taken last week.

Any good places to see larches in NW Oregon or SW Washington, or elsewhere in Oregon?

Not sure about Oregon, and SW WA I dont think has any good larch spots I can think of, but I could be wrong. I'm no expert on that area.

My album on Washington State this year clearly showed that there is some great color in the high country.

Carne Mountain and Mount Maude are higher mountains with great fall colors. The Okonogan Region is filled with wonderful larches. The berry bushes at 5000-6000 feet on the western side are also not to be missed. Bald Mountain by Mount Pilchuck was amazing last week. If you are really into harder stuff and want fall colors, Jack Mountain and Crater Mountain are great places to go when weather is good.

The best place for high peaks and great colors that I have been to so far (they are regionally famous), The Enchantments. Climb Dragontail or Colchuck in peak fall colors and your jaw will drop over the amazing eye candy. Both peaks are over 8700 feet!

Would suggest Strawberry Mountain (and Strawberry Lake) near John Day, OR for larches.

Here's a cool article I saw with pictures taken in the Enchantments by local (at least local for me) photographer Marc Dilley - probably one the best photographers I've seen.
