Portland (area) Gear Resources

Hi folks!

I'm looking for some climbing resources in northwestern Oregon other than REI. I assume most places would be in or around Portland, but if there are options further south, great.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Cheers,

Anthony :geek:

Portland shops: Next Adventure (has a Eugene store too, I believe), The Mountain Shop, Oregon Mountain Community (e-omc online). REI has a great selection of yoga pants and dog bowls, but their climbing gear selection isn't what it used to be. Check online retailers too.

I've been using Backcountry Gear in Eugene lately. Awesome prices and great customer service. Just ordered some rope yesterday, received today with no freight, and now I have a 30M dry 10.2 rope for $75 (Edelweiss Element on sale).

Also, if you price shop Peak has been same price on a lot of the little stuff. Been buying carabiners, cord and webbing from them because if I were to drive somewhere there's fuel costs and would need at least a $50 order from most places to get free shipping.

Portland's (apparently) best-kept secret for climbing/outdoor gear- US Outdoor on Broadway. Great big selection of all sorts of stuff... might be a little pricey, but I haven't shopped there enough to say for sure.

Before you shop, always google "Merc Perks" (Portland Mercury newspaper). They frequently have half-off coupons for both US Outdoor and Next Adventure.

Saw a $40-for-$20 offer for US Outdoor Store on Google Offers this morning. Ben B. is right. I forgot to mention them and their selection is fairly good. I've only shopped there when using one of these 50% coupons, so the price has always been right.
