Day 1. Attempted to hike into Moraine Lake at night and couldn't see the smoke, got in 2 miles and it was raining ash. Turned around, headed to stay at Sun River Resort.
Day 2. Got up headed to Mt Thielsen. Made summit around 4pm. Camped at Diamond Lake.
Day 3. Went back to Sisters area and saw that the winds shifted and had epic blue skies (for most of the day), small storm moved in late. Decided to go for it even though it was late (1pm and still near Sun River).
Day 3. Hiked into Moraine, setup camp, left for the summit around 3pm, arrived on summit around 6:30. Headed back to camp (most of the trip down was in the dark). No winds in camp and relaxed and enjoyed some Bob Marley and some grub.
Day 4. Woke up to blue skies and epic views of the SS with a dusting of snow on top.

Neat photo's.

I'm not sure how I feel about the forest getting torched. If people weren't around, they'd surely keep blazing, and it is clearly a way to allow fresh vegetation in from scratch, so to speak. Looks like the tree-line may be the western endpoint.
