I saw on Steph's fantastic Pickets page a faq stating the traverse from Luna to E Fury along the ridge crest requires NO glacier travel. Is that to say no snow slopes of any kind ? Or just no "real glacier" ? Every report I have read on E Fury makes mention of having to step foot on glacier, even from the Luna ridge traverse.

Also... since i got you, anyone traversed from E Fury to West ? How'd it go ? And what would be the best (read - easiest) way to Picket Pass from West Fury ?

Well I went to Luna last summer. Hope you don't mind a good round of bush whacking on the approach. Looks like at the very least some light glacier travel is in, however whether or not a rope is required I cannot say.

After I posted my Pickets page, someone pointed out that you could take the ridge from Luna Col to E Fury, so I posted this note on the page. Previous to this I had assumed the only way to the summit of Fury from Luna col would involve glacier travel on the SE side. I myself have only approached Fury via the North Buttress. Maybe check out Tabor & Crowder as referenced on my Pickets page?

Mount Fury, East Peak from Luna Col will definitely require a mix of moderate to steep snow travel and a bit of glacier after dropping off the rocky ridge and traversing over to Fury. Your in the Pickets man. Nothing technical but plenty interesting. 'Selected Climbs in the Cascades' vol.2 by Nelson and Potterfield has a very good description of the route with photo's and check out Norman's page here on Fury for some pics.

ha...lol we will walk across a glacier at some point on this part of the traverse...believe me when I say it will be both easier and faster!

thanks for the replies all. was expecting glacier, just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something.

matt - i'll take easier n faster, i'm thinkin' that will be a welcome combo by the time we hit this portion.
