Hello, Everyone!

I am planning a trip up toward Mt. Jefferson and want to camp near one of the lakes to the north at the base of Jefferson (Bays Lake, Rock Lake, Scout Lake, Park Lake & Russell Lake). My question is, can someone tell me of there experience to these lakes, and do they have any fish in them??

2nd question. Does anyone know of a good high mountain lake to hike to, that doesn't require you to stay in a designated camp site....what's this world coming to???....obvioulsy looking for a scenic hike....would prefer one near the cascades

Any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks,

Planning the hike at the end of this month!

Hey, I've camped at Russell a few times; one of my faves. Not sure I've seen any fish in it, but it sure is beautiful!

Think I've heard of people fishing in Bays. I remember one guy was hiking in/out with a floaty tube so he could fish in the channels of Bays.

Other than that, not sure on the fish in the other lakes. Likely in the bigger ones, I would think.
I don't know about any other camping in non-designated spots, etc. It is what it is. . I'm sure there are plenty of places/lakes one can bandit camp,
just gotta scout out a spot. . .

You could always call the Ranger district for Jeff regarding the lakes that are more likely to have fish in 'em.

Good luck.

This is just me spraying basically, but I'd be really surprised if anything over there in that area above 4,500' has any fish in it... especially Russell and the higher lakes. I'm pretty sure they're all terminal, glacial lakes- no streams or other outlets to allow fish in. I also wouldn't be surprised if they freeze solid, but don't actually know.

Hiked into Duffy Lake. Mosquitos were minimal and the water was warm, swam several times. Tons of trout but couldn't get them to bite!...Thanks for replys
