Tooth approach

Feeling silly even asking this. The only approach to Das Toof that I've used is apparently the long way: up the Snow Lake trail from the Alpental lot, cross the talus above Source Lake, and then go up-valley toward Pineapple. There is apparently a shorter (and much more popular?) approach straight up thru Alpental, and around the base of Denny...?

Looking at the GT map, thinking about making an after-work headlamp hike tonight to scout the approach for my future knowledge. Links, directions, etc. appreciated.

I suppose you can hike up under a chair lift to Denny Mt, then traverse the ridge to Pineapple Pass. I've done the reverse, finding difficulties to 5.7, but we were looking for fun. http://www.mountainwerks.org/cma/2002/datoof.htm In winter you can take a chair lift up and traverse on skis to Great Scott Bowl. I've also heard you can gain Pineapple Pass from Denny Creek, but certainly the most popular way is Snow Lake/Source Lake/Great Scott Bowl. Its just about the shortest alpine approach in the Cascades already.

Whaaaat?!? HA!!! Thank you for that link. That's so funny -- I work with Peter. Just saw him a couple days ago, back from a successful trip up Denali (his pink down suit just slays me). What a small world!

RE: the alternative route, if the way I know is, as it turns out, the standard way to go, I'll just stick with that, then. Cool. Thanks for the quick answer. Should be a nice evening for a hike, with a full(ish) moon and clear skies.
