What is the latest consensus on security of belongings while on the climb? Do I hide the duffel bag outside or just lock it up with a cable lock and zip ties inside?

Any snow/ice report from up top?

thx

The labrynth was somewhat icy about a week ago. But a moderate level of skill with crampons could get you through easy enough.

It would be easy enough to cache your gear around the hut if you're worried about theft.

We left all our gear in the hut during two long days and no one touched it.

As mentioned above though, if you're worried it wouldn't be that hard to stash it somewhere nearby.

Your gear isn't safe in the hut if it isn't watched- remember someone was attacked/shot there a year ago. I only left a few things I wouldn't have missed (or needed to get back home) there. The rest I left with the Cancholas.

FWIW... We left our gear in the hut while we climbed a few weeks ago and had no problems. According to Sr Reyes there have not been any reported instances of theft at the hut this year. The road to the hut is getting pretty rough so perhaps that is keeping non-climbers from visiting the hut quite as much.
