Is it me or does it seem that there are not many routes up Orizaba? Is there any info on other routes to the top? I am looking at photos and seeing some possibly cool stuff, just no info. I would be happy to go out and find some new info, take pictures, post a FA TR if I knew it would be new ya know?

Lookin for some holiday ideas... :)

There are dozens of routes on Orizaba. Many are in Secor's book and several others in Salkeld's book.

Wonderful, that is what I was looking for. I wasn't sure that if I picked up the book I would find more information than on SP.

Do you have a recommendation as to which book to start with or just get both because they have different info?

Two completely different books. Secor's book is to Mexico and Salkeld's to the world. For Mexico's high volcanoes only, you want Secor's. (If you want a book on interesting selected climbs on 52 mountains around the world, you want Salkeld's, but I assume you are looking for Orizaba only).

There are lots of routes up Orizaba, and while some may be cool, why bother with Orizaba? It's not that interesting of a mountain. Tons of better stuff here in the ol' USA. If you're dead set on Mexico you can find better routes up Ixta or even Nevado de Toluca I think. Access and logistics can be a much bigger issue on the remote routes on Orizaba than the normal ones.

I agree with Bird. Ecuador climbing was a blast. In talking with some guides it appears there is some FA potential on Cayambe. The glacier on Orizaba is similar to a snow field compared to the glacier on Cayambe. Mexico was a great experience both times I visited so I'm not bashing the climbing there. I guess it depends on the time and money you have to climb. Cheers!
