I'm going to get some time off in May and was looking for some beta on the conditions of Orizaba.

Has anyone climbed climbed this in mid May?

What can i expect for weather?

relatively, how hard is it to climb?

i've climbed several 14ers in Colorado and would like to start climbing at higher elevations..

thanks for the help,
joe

Just climbed it in January so no insight on May conditions. But I found it a straightforward climb - mostly a steep snow slope. We had two people with Rainier as their highest and they did fine. Pictures, videos, TR on my site but a lot here on SP as well.

Good Luck and Climb On!

I went climbing in Mexico in mid May, 2007 and had only a little trouble with weather. While the US winter is the best time to climb the volcanoes because of Mexico's dry and stable weather patterns that time of year, May was fine. Overnight thunderstorms a couple of nights, but they cleared out before we needed to be on the trail. And chance of afternoon lightning and rain. I would say, if you're used to climbing in places like Colorado in the summer, then you'll be fine in Mexico. You just need to be more aware of what the weather is doing than you would during the typical climbing season.

By the way, I just uploaded images from my trip in May '07. They'll give you an idea of the conditions, I think...
