I highly recommend an agency called Alberth Bolivia. They are based in La Paz (Illampu 773)
Talk to Juan, he speaks English.

You can ask for Porfirio as a guide, and Efrain as a cook.
This agency is really reliable and cheaper than the others.
We hike through Cordillera Real and climbed Huayna Potosi, in very safe conditions, good food, and excellent atmsophere.

Enjoy !

I'm gathering some beta for a trip to Bolivia in May. I've reviewed the info on this thread so far--good stuff!

What is the condition of the Refugio at Huayna Potosi? Worth it or bring a tent?

I don't want a guide but I do want reliable 4x4 transport while in Bolivia. Are there any recommendations for a transport provider? Ideally I’d like to run the transport and any porters/mule needs through one agency—is this possible or should I plan to arrange mules etc at the start of each climb?

Cheers!

We used Bolivian Journey's services. The overall experience was acceptable. The logistics were handled very well and the guides were exceptional. I would use them again if the opportunity presents itself. By the way, the mountains are spectacular!!

The only gripe I had with them was they gave us super thin sleeping pads for the high camp on the glacier. Check before you head out if they're supplying gear. Other than that, competent and friendly guides.

I used two different guide services while In Bolivia.
Adolofo Andino - I Do NOT Recommend Using Them
Bolivia Mountains - Excellent all around.

I just added a trip report that gives contact info for B.M. It also talks about availability of local gear, and our acclimatization, trekking, and mountaineering in Bolivia.
