Google +"Illimani" and +"Khara Khota" - note different spelling - and you will bring up some pages.

There's been some routes done on the eastern/southeastern side of Illimani in recent years. They're good looking routes, steep ice and mixed.

I was on the normal route on Illimani in June 99 and public transport was not great. Most people hired a car/bus/jeep to the area and I assume the eastern side would be even harder to get to without hiring a jeep. There is a mining road that runs down from the north that gave good 4x4 access right to Illimani BC that other people were using, so maybe you could use that. This is NOT the normal road to the nearest village - that road stops at the village a few hours walk from BC, which is what we did.

Hello !

Is it Chiar Khota you're looking for ?
If it is Chiar Khota, that's the lake at the base of Condoriri and Pequeño Alpamayo.
You can access it from the tiny village of Tuni. To reach Tuni you indeed need to rent a 4x4 service. You can contact the agency called Alberth Bolivia in La Paz, they provide excellent service. You can find their details on my Cordillera Real page : http://www.summitpost.org/area/range/31 ... ivia-.html

Cheers,
