I just came across bad news from Nepal. Seven fatalities and counting.

Our fellow SP'er is currently on expedition on the mountain. I found his team's dispatch and good news is that they all dodged the bullet. On the group photo from dispatch #14, Kevin is square in the middle on the front row. Good luck buddy!

Silvio Mondinelli and Christian Gobbi were miraculously "spit" out of the avalanche after being swept away for about 200 meters, while Alberto Magliano and his sherpa, unfortunately lost their lives. Has also affected the Italian expedition of Silvio Mondinelli the tragic avalanche that tonight came off from the slopes of Manaslu, 8163 meters in Nepal, smashing the field where three climbers spend the night over thirty and coming to engulf the field that was some two hundred of feet below.

To tell the tale is the voice of Mondinelli, which we reached via satellite to base camp. "Christian and I are fine, we arrived at base camp while ago - says Gnaro - but unfortunately Albert does not have it done. We extracted from the snow with Sherpa, and we were about to wait to bring him down, but helicopters are moving the wounded to the valley and we were told that it would take time. Later tonight, or more likely tomorrow morning, go back to the helicopter to go get him. I can not think, had become a grandfather yesterday and wept with joy. It 'terrible. "

The story of the flood is chilling. "It was 4.20 - says the mountaineer -. I was about to go out for a need. We have heard a deafening noise and we have not understood anything. I was in a tent with Christian, we found ourselves overwhelmed and copiti from blocks of ice and snow. After 200 meters the avalanche threw us out. We lost everything, we had no shoes. It was dark, there was no light, could not see anything. "

"The tent was right next to our Alberto - continues Mondinelli -. I can not comprehend that he is dead. He had oxygen tanks inside that maybe they did weight and dragged him down while we were lighter. I do not know. However, he ended up in depth and not have it done. We pulled out but there was nothing to do. "

"It 's hard to say what we tried - continues Gnaro - because it was a fraction of a second. But after it was terrible. I am Christian and we wrapped his feet with sleeping bags and we walked for a while so, then we have recovered the boots to go down. "

According to the latest official news, the Himalayan Times reported, it comes to 11 confirmed dead and 8 missing, plus an unknown number of wounded. The situation when the Italian left the field 3 was awesome "I counted at least 12 or 13 dead - ends Mondinelli -. The avalanche was so large that even pulverized field 2 between blast and snow. There are, however, saved all, there are only two or three Sherpas a little 'shabby but overall in good condition. "

Mondinelli Gobbi and arrived at base camp about three hours ago. They met Marco Confortola, which has escaped the tragedy because he was at the base camp. As reported by Maria Cuscela La Stampa, are also subject to other four Italian climbers Valsesia, who were on an expedition to Manaslu base camp but they were at the time of the avalanche.

Gobbi Mondinelli and now they are already preparing the bins, and that those of their Magliano, while waiting to go to recover the mate. In the next hours is expected to arrive Nima Nuru Sherpa, head of Cho Oyu Trekking, coming up to support the recovery of Magliano and formalities for repatriation.

Alberto Magliano, born in Trieste April 24, 1945 but living in Milan, is the first Italian Rehinold after Messner to have climbed the Seven Summits. It was not a professional climber, but a former business executive, now a consultant tourism. He had discovered the only climbing to 36 years. Big fan of mountain, he had shared several expeditions with the likes of Silvio Mondinelli, Mario Panzeri, Michele Compagnoni, with whom he had forged a sincere amicizia.Amava freedom that gives mountaineering, loved to go to the Himalayas, but was able to renounce the peaks he wanted if there were no conditions to reach them.

Go Kevin! Hope this event does not ruin his and my other friend Jonathan's psyche to continue on with their expedition. Events like this really mess with your psychological state.
