Kids climbing spot in NC

by doc1911 » Wed Sep 17, 2014 2:42 am

I'm looking for advice on locations/ routes for taking my 11 year old son climbing for the first time. I am a fairly experienced mountaineer and can lead climb a 5.8. My son has indoor climbing but nothing outdoors yet. I'm looking for an area that will support a easy top rope install where I can safely put in an anchor and walk off something around a 5.4 or so.

We live in central NC so I'm thinking somewhere up in the Asheville area or north of Charlotte. Any help would be great

Thanks

Hounds ears area outside of Boone might have some top rope. Tablerock has some around the parking area. Table has some bolted 5.4's for beginning leaders too....for when your son gets to that point.
