Pika preparing for winter

Pika preparing for winter

American Pika collecting food on the slopes of Mount Bross, Mosquito Range. Colorado 2006. Pikas remain active all year and do not hibernate. They rely on haystacks of plants, which they build throughout the summer in their tunnels to get them through winter months.

Hungry!

It seems that everytime I see one of these critters it's stuffing its face with something! I wonder if they're ever FULL? Pika's are great! Nice picture!

Re: Hungry!

Thank you. Yes, they do eat often but still have a great figure anyways ;) They are one of my favorites in the Rockies. So agile and always on the go. I love their stamina.

Re: Too precious!

Thank you Bob. I hope you get to see a lot of them. You will probably hear them first though. Supposedly, they make calls to warn each other of danger, but I think they do it for entertainment as well to attract our attention ;)
