GlissadeWhere do these glissades run out? Is it a gradual lessening of the slope or do you use you ax to stop from a full speed glissade?

Re: GlissadeThey do run out to flatter snow at the bottom, but you generally won't do the entire slope in one slide, so you'll do some arrests.

Re: GlissadeIt's the **best** glissade I've ever had also! Approx. 10 minutes / 3,000 feet of whooping & laughing hysterically while hitting "bumps" of snow as it would build up in front. Roller Coaster City!
And yes, we would have to dig in our axes to cut speed. There was a huge, safe runout at the end.

pikers peakHi dean, nice shot of the glissade. I have attempted three times scanning and posting that similar shot. It just is not the same. I rode that glissade a little early in the morning,it was a bit hairy! I had a nice finish and saved my thighs a lot of work.

Re: pikers peakThanks for your vote on the picture and for your comment on it. I remember that the glissade chute was icy as I trudged up the mountain but it had softened just enough to make the ride down later on perfect for me. Mt. Adams is great fun under the right condtions. The only other glissade I've ever had that was as good as this one was on Mt. St. Helens just below the Dogs Head (pre eruptive of course).
