Pilar Grande is a subsidiary peak of Mercedario exceeding the 6000m line. It is very easy to reach and a perfect viewpoint to check the normal route or the Ollada glacier route (mentioned as Northern glacier on SP). Spectacular is the view of the northface of the next subsidiary in the west!
Here are my GPS data:

Getting ThereThere is a lot of information about getting there on the other mountain pages of Mercedario and the Mercedario Group.
Climbing the mountain
Most likely you will be on the normal route of Mercedario.
From the camp Pirca de Indios at about 5170m follw the trail towards Ollada. When reaching the little outcrop turn right and follow the ridge.
In my opinion Ollada is not a good place to stay. There is no protection in case of a very strong storm from the west and you may get blown of the mountain. However, most people set camp there as to reduce the distance to the Mercedario summit.
Pirca de Indios seems to be very cold but safe and you will find running water at the glacier.
