| squick | Route Climbed: Alpnachstadt to the top + Matthorn ![]() Date Climbed: Oct 13, 2007 | |
| Climbed up from Alpnachstadt to the top of the Matthorn, which affords great views to the south, the Jungfrau massif and Titlis, which were bobbing just above the cloud. Then on to the top of Pilatus, where the very top of Rigi could be seen poking through the cloud. Quite a long climb, probably around 1500m up, but there are fixed steel ropes up to the Matthorn and easy walking up to Pilatus. Within minutes of getting to the top, the cloud moved up and blanketed everything, taking away the view.... | ||

| cp0915 | mini tour ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 6, 2007 | |
| Mini-tour of Pilatus, visiting the Tomlishorn (6983 ft), Esel (6953 ft) and Oberhaupt (6913 ft) summits in a near white-out. Had a face-to-face with a steinbok just below the Tomlishorn summit. Heard cowbells in the valleys below, through the mist. Didn't bump into another soul, strangely enough, on any of the three summits. | ||

| Poor Climber | Climbed Matterhorn (sub peak) with cable car as approach :) ![]() Date Climbed: Oct 2, 2006 | |
| After using the cable car for the `approach`, since I did not have the whole day, and was without my boots and trekking poles.... I descended from the submit to the saddle, and then climbed back up to the matterhorn which was a fun scramble. The weather was beautiful, but devolping clouds over the alps made it difficult to see them. As an introduction to climbing in Switzerland, I am pretty sure that I will be back! | ||

| Diggler | Route Climbed: trail up to summit Date Climbed: August 1998 ![]() | |
| Starting up from the end bus stop, I steadily worked past the gondola drop-off points, many of those whom I saw thinking me crazy for going up in my Adidas tennis shoes. Getting near the top, mist and clouds started closing in, precluding any kind of a summit view. Seeing perhaps 15 other people total hiking up, it was strange to see hundreds (?) of mechanically deposited tourists on top, along with a hotel, gift shop, bar, etc. Of course the clouds started dissipating on my descent. Riding on the alpine sled 1/2way down the mtn was a blast. I continued all the way to the hostel in Luzern, swimming in the 4Waldstaedtersee that night to relieve my aching muscles. | ||

| darinchadwick | Route Climbed: East Ridge Date Climbed: July 2002 ![]() | |
| After reading so many excellent route descriptions by Alpenkalb, we finally got to meet, and hike up this excellent peak. For a first view of the Swiss Alps, this is hard to beat. The Berner Oberland are especially impressive. The steep trail makes a great conditioning hike for other climbs also. What a shock to come up to the summit to hot sausages, tourists, and music. Still, it was a great hike, well worth the time. I was sold on climbing in Switzerland when I saw the possibilities from the summit. | ||
