| I camped at Dore Head, the saddle between Yewbarrow and Red Pike and was planning to make my way to Honister Pass, going over every fell along the route. It was a warm day, but Pillar was still relatively early in the route so it didn't take all that long to get there. Approaching the summit from the southwest, it was a really gentle route, but soon after I got past the summit, descending towards the east, I could see part of the very rugged northern slopes. Impressive! | |

| From Buttermere village, over Scarth Gap Pass to Black Sail Hut, up Pillar, down via Pillar Rock, up over Red Pike back to Buttermere. Superb flat calm morning with perfect reflections on the lakes. | |
