markhallamWe had a ball - twice in 24hours!  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Sep 26, 2015

With Jon W: we camped in upper Mosedale after walking in from Wasdale Head and then climbed Pillar via Wistow Crags in the (cloudy) evening before descending to tent via Wind Gap (not very pleasant scree descent). Early next morning in perfect weather we walked up to Black Sail Pass and on to Pillar Rock via High Level Route, where we scrambled on top of Pisgah before doing Slab & Notch as a roped climb (harder and much more exposed than Wistow Crags although both same scrambling grade of 3***). Finally walked back over top of Pillar and back down to Wasdale - via 'normal route'... so overall we climbed Pillar twice and via 5 different routes! Not bad for a couple of old guys in a weekend!

rggWarm and sunny  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 23, 2012

I camped at Dore Head, the saddle between Yewbarrow and Red Pike and was planning to make my way to Honister Pass, going over every fell along the route. It was a warm day, but Pillar was still relatively early in the route so it didn't take all that long to get there.

Approaching the summit from the southwest, it was a really gentle route, but soon after I got past the summit, descending towards the east, I could see part of the very rugged northern slopes. Impressive!
