simple hike to the saddle, then strapped on our snow shoed up to the top, where there was high winds but still amazing day with buddy Jerrod.

Easy snowshoe  Sucess!

Jonathan and I took the firm snowmobile track up to the saddle, donned the snowshoes and headed for the summit. High wind and snowfall made for pretty bad views from the top, but we had fun anyway.

Happy New Year  Sucess!

Nice solo New Year's Day snowshoe outing. Got up early, and ahead of most of the snowmobilers. Good safe climb, great views from the summit. Trip Report

Skis only  Sucess!

I skied this many times, the most memorable being the day we kicked off the entire slope just below the lookout. Fortunately for us, the fracture line was just below our feet.

Good local training peak- best avoided from Sept-Apr to avoid hunters and snowmobilers. Snow lingers some years into early June at the summit. Large mining area NW of Pilot Peak summit with well preserved buildings, narrow guage railroad etc. There are active mining areas not too far from the summit also. Small Cabin lies just north of the road between Freeman and Pilot Peaks

Good Mtn bike ride follows a prominent ridge just north of Idaho City and ascends past Freeman Peak onto the Pilot Peak Road. Interesting Jeep road descends down the north side of Pilot Peak and ends up near Pioneerville.

10-25-09 Ran the jeep road up from ID-21. MOst all the snow from 2 weeks ago is gone. Terrific views of Sawtooths. Clear and cold.
