Recently moved to strategically place myself only 15 miles from the "Baldy Bowl" trailhead offering a 9.2 mile round trip and 3,904 foot elevation weekend training adventure to the top of Mount San Antonio at 10,068 feet.
In the winter and spring months depending on snow conditions, the "Baldy Bowl" south of the summit with slopes of 45° to 50° and hazards of avalanches and rock fall offers the challenge of traditional mountaineering skills using crampons and a ice ax. Hard to believe this is possible in Los Angeles County!
In the summer, there are many routes to the summit involving cross-country travel or scrambling and it is possible to rappel down the canyon of San Antonio Creek.
Always looking for others to share my similar passion of true mountaineering, so if in the area feel free to send me a email.
Climb on and be safe...
