Description
I'm seeking to work on several lists, and also non-listed peaks. My gist is to summit, and sign in the register, if there is one, or place a book and cans, if appropriate. Safety, success, fun, and photography, are the main goals. Dining along the way is good, and exploring interesting towns and scenic features are also part of the game.
I'm on a budget, so have to spend only when highly merited. I keep notes on gas prices, and good food deals. I must get a motel every so often, to charge up my digital camera batteries. With good company, I will camp up to three or four days straight.
Mostly I day climb, and haven't backpacked for years. Ski mountaineering with snow camping is a great activity, and I'd like to get back into that. My arms are probably too weak for anymore climbing than a few, short, easy class 5 moves. I am always thinking of weight training to get back into shape, but then what for, with no partner.
I have almost infinite time, and am retired, so can go at about any time. I have a good passenger car, getting over 40 mpg, and ride sharing is no problem, for me. I climb year-round, and have many peaks in mind for the seasons. Having done so many of the local peaks so many times, I seek to travel longer distances, and see new things. I'm pretty good on navigation and figuring things out. 36 years of experience!

| Looking for hiking partner for a 2 to 3 week trip, up the JMT. I wanting to take off sometime in mid- late August . My plan is to hike over Whiney via the Mountaineering Route, so a permit should not be a problem. Still working on the details. What do think? | | Posted May 24, 2006 3:59 am |

| I've already done the entire John Muir Trail, in parts over 1971-72. I sometimes meant to do it again, but haven't the will or time/money. Too boring after peak climbing. I've repeated parts of the trail while bagging some peaks, and it still looks too familiar.
I had an 84 year old associate who likes to do it every so often, but he refuses to speak with me, anymore. His pace is about 5 miles/day average. Likes to stop and fish, and rest a lot.
Now that I'm into digital, my batteries would need recharging every three or four days. They cost too much to get more, and are obsolete, too. Sorry! | | Posted May 30, 2006 9:29 pm |

| Did Lyell 2X, already, but wish to try a day climb. 26 miles, start before dawn, finish after dark. When I'm in good shape. Or, another winter ascent on skis.
Noticed this a few days after my getting back from WA. Nice road trip--wish to go back now, finding this heat wave locally (CA). Mostly highs in the 70's up there! | | Posted Jul 26, 2006 8:54 pm |

"We have nothing against the practice slopes and the standard runs, but if that's all you know, you've missed something special; something lost beyond the ranges, a glistening new white world with its hard edges covered over for the winter, and you its discoverer."
