Plaque Commemorating Barrington
A new plaque commemorating Charles Barrington, the first man to climb the Eiger in 1858. The plaque reads:
Charles Barrington 1834 - 1901
First man to climb the Eiger Peak
This plaque was erected on 11th August 2008
to commemorate the 150th anniversary of
Charles Barrington of "Fasssaroe", Bray,
Co, Wicklow, Ireland being the first man to reach
the summit of the Eiger in 1858
