dino61111Twining Peak only  Sucess!

An early mountain I walked up even before I knew I had to climb mountains. No problem even for a neophyte. If you are at Independence Pass, just take an hour to wander over to this summit.

A moderately cloudy day but the clouds were puffy and the sun poked through every once in awhile. Easy hike up the snow free ridge and then a nice run down the west slopes on firm snow and was able to get back to my car right before it started raining. Feet got really wet in the swamps though!

On week-long trip to Sawatch with wife. Given forecast, we wanted a quicker one - so I tagged Pt 13,500 and Twining, and she just tagged Pt 13,500. (Haven't done Pt 13,545 yet.)

Had a blast skinning out from Independence Pass, and skiing Blue Peak along with UN 13,545'. We started skinning at 6:30 from the Pass and arrived at the hairpin turn (on the Twin Lakes side) by noon.

PT 13500 and Twining via Independence Pass. Not only is the pass still open (11/4/12), but these peaks are essentially bone dry. You could probably climb both without ever stepping on snow, but the most direct route will have you pass over a few strips of 2" deep here and there.

Hiked up from the pass to Point 13500 then north to Twining (both summits). Admired the headwaters of the Roaring Fork and surrounding mountains. 25mph winds. Cut back straight to the pass from the col.

My friend was supposed to accompany me, but witnessing a death on the Maroon Bells the day before had him ready to head back to Denver, don't blame him!

Twining & UN 13500 make for a nice mellow, short hike from Indpendence Pass. A great choice if you've just exhauted yourself in the Elks the day before and are heading back to the front range.

I enjoyed one of the most beautiful sunsets from the summit of Twinning peak at the end of an exciting day of climbing. Busted out the hike from Independece pass over Pt 13,500 to Twinning half an hour before the sun set, making the hike out in dusk/moonlight. Earlier that afternoon I hiked Bull Mtn over to S Elbert from Echo Creek. A couple of Dale's Pale Ale's taste pretty good at the end of such an amazing day!

Climbed Twining Peak with PT 13500 via Independence Pass. Great quick little climb to two high summits! I think RT was not even 2 1/2 hrs.

Che Wentz and I started at 3:30 PM from the pass just afte a little storm. We summited the sub peak and then Twining or Blue Peak as I've heard it called. We sunk into some waist deep muddy slosh holes a few times on the way back but it was well worth the swim! Nice mellow-surfy-sunset-turns back to the lot...

For some reason, I had a hair up my butt to go to Aspen for breakfast. On the way home, I took a few hours to ascend this delightful (and quick) mountain. Good weather and no body else on the mountain!

We hiked from Independence Pass up UN 13,500 as described in ColoradoScott's trip report. The views are incredible: the entire Elk range is visible to the west, and more rare views of the west sides of Elbert and Massive to the east. A pretty waterfall on the lower-western slopes on the way down highlighted hike/scramble down. We climbed on the Fourth of July and saw ZERO people after leaving Independence Pass behind.

Twining has a "double summit" that is visible from UN 13,500. The first summit is just a hike, class 2 or 2+. The other (higher) summit is about 100 feet east, and the ridge between them is "airy" - a little exposed - and getting to the summit requires maybe one easy class 3 move, but not in an exposed point.

This page really needs to be reorganized: Twining Peak is a separate bicentennial peak, and point 13,545, whether or not it's the most interesting route, is only a route, and it's not a hiking route. The route from Independence Pass is the natural hiking route, and there are really two routes, the southwest slopes and the continental divide ridge over UN 13500.
