Puffy Clouds

October is a good time to visit at White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico, just north of El Paso. It is a very wide open area,
just east of the San Andres Mountains at the
northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert. The GEMSBOK, an African antelope, was introduced into the area by the State of New Mexico, and have successfully multiplied and spread into the Park. If you're lucky, you will see the tracks of many animals, including the Kit fox and
Bleached earless lizard. ~ October 2002 ~

	Hasn't voted	It's the Chihuahuan Desert's version of Death Valley. There are no rivers in the area, so what little rain that falls is trapped within a basin containing sediments that measure 2,000 feet deep. The lowest point is a large playa that is still nearly 4,000 feet in elevation because of the "build-up" of sediment. (Kind of like a very large bathtub, and I'm glad I don't have to clean it!)

I knew that was White Sands when I spotted this one. I have attached it to my White Sands page. Sometime this weekend, I'll try finding a spot for it on the main page, as I like the contrast in it and would like to how it more prominently.
