At last it came a day when i will head for the highest peak of Dolomites - Punta Penia. From Rijeka(CROATIA) to starting point of ascent Lago Di Fedaia to this great peak is 350 km of night ride.
We were heading From Rijeka to Lago di Fedaia at 22:00h. After a 6 hour long and hard driving, we came at last to Lago Di Fedaia at 04:10h. I said to Slobo: Maybe we could rest at least 40 to 60 minutes before our ascent? Off course the lazy slobodan agreeds. He was sleeping like a baby while i was driving all night, and he was still more tired than me.
We were sleep in the car just one hour, then we were started to prepair for the ascent. It was dawn, and for our luck wery beautiful day, more that i excepten that should be. Just when we thought that everithing is ok and we were ready for our goal, then it was appered one big problem. Slobo the fucking brain forgot his hiking and climbing shoes!!! That means: everything what he had is SNEAKERS. But he said to me: we traveled so many that we can not quit! I agree with him. His ascent on Marmolada - Punta Punta Penia was in wear out sneakers.
At the Lago Di Fedaia to Marmolada glacier everithing was easy(just follow the path), but the most problems was at the bottom of the glacier. It was the steep icefall which Slobo could not pass in sneakers. So we tried to avoid the icefall the best we can. We were stick to the nearest rocks but we failed(to many creavasses). Then Slobo started to said the we over estimated ourselves, that this mountain is too hard for a non-equipment climbers. But i were hit apon a idea to collect the nearest small rocks and we use them for walking on the icefall. We Tried This AND WE MADE IT! After 250 altitude meters we came on soft snow, but soft snow was not problem for wear out sneakers. At last after crossing the glacier we came to the 150m vertical cliff, after that just 100 m of the soft snow to the summit. We made the Marmolada without equipment + slobo in sneakers in just 3 hours and exactly 10 minutes.
