A little bit of a disappointment. After a whole morning walking around (and summiting!) Plomb du Cantal, getting on the cement stairs between the Pas de Peyrol and Puy Mary with a crowd of tourists was kind of an anti-climax. Nevertheless, I found the location of Puy Mary really beautiful and the mountain does have a very good aspect when you forget everything else. A climb from Super Lioran -via Puy Griou and Puy de Peyre Arse- could be the way to see its most beautiful face.
Plomb du Cantal and Puy Mary Date Climbed: Aug 24, 2009
We went to Super-Lioran with the desire of climb Puy Griou and Puy Mary but it was raining and for this reason we climbed Plomb du Cantal across the pistes of ski-resort. When we reached the summit the sun shined and we descended across the Puy de Rocher and Rocher du Cerf. We decided to climb Puy Mary after a lunch but it was almost impossible from Super-Lioran in the same day and we climbed from Col de Peyrol with a lot of tourists. I climbed Puy de la Tourte in the other side of the col as well. The next time in the area we will try the hike from Super-Lioran to this nice peak.
