| I made this climb with my friends Ted,Rick, and Andrew. We got hit with a storm about 1,000 feet from the summit so we made the summit in complete white out conditions. I used snow shoes for the approach and crampons and ice axe for the last 500 ft which was windblown ice along the ridge line. It was a lot fun but no views due to the storm. | ||

| I was obsessed with hiking Pyramid Peak for a couple of summers, climbing it regularly three or four times a week during my three months off from teaching. I snowshoed it numerous times in the winter too. Sometimes I would find moutaineer skiers at its summit tackling its steep slopes. My favorite route is the little used Rocky Canyon trail. It is a no-nonsense trail that gives you the shortest distance and the greatest elevation gain. I frequently took friends up this route. I basically hiked it as a routine aerobic workout, and living in Lake Tahoe, the trailhead was less than a half hour drive. It has one of the best views of the Desolation Wilderness and the western slope. Over the past twenty-four years I must have seen its summit over a hundred times. | ||

| This climb was much more enjoyable the second time because I found the trail 100 feet east of the creek. Thanks SP. | ||

| Jonodo | Route Climbed: West Ridge (Lake Sylvia) Date Climbed: June 19, 2004 ![]() | |
| We left the car at about 9:00 am and were on the summit by noon. The day was clear and warm. I loved the view of Lake Aloha. We ascended the chute to the south of Lake Sylvia, of which the lower part was still snow covered. On the descent we were able to find a little class 3 climbing to the southeast of Sylvia. These day hikes coming from sea level are getting to me. I was sucking wind, but we made it. I saw one of the strangest things I've come accross in the Sierra. An old dude, wearing only OP shorts, leading four goats (carrying his pack). The wierdest part was that he had no shoes on. Completely barefoot, and 3-4 miles from the trailhead! | ||

| brianhughes | Route Climbed: from Lyons Creek Trailhead Date Climbed: June 6th, 2004 | |
| I thought I could make this trip in one afternoon from the Lyons Creek Trailhead, but I was still a few hundred yards short of the summit at turnaround time. I got back to the truck at 9:00pm, just as the last glimmers of daylight disappeared. Anyway, it was a beautiful clear day, and the trailhead parking lot was already full by the time I arrived. The Lyons Creek trail is an easy 4.6-mile walk up to Lake Sylvia. Lyons Creek is never too far from the trail, and the gentle roar of the spring runoff provided the perfect background music. The last half-mile or so below Lake Sylvia was an obstacle course of swampy ground, snowdrifts, and tricky creek crossings. Lake Sylvia was beautiful, with ice still floating on the surface. | ||

| This was my second ascent in 2003. The first ascent was from the Horsetail Falls trailhead. This route is shorter but it is still a good workout. | ||

| A mild winter ascent! Stashed snowshoes at tree-line. Hiked hard pack on up to the summit. We carried plastic garbage bags up and, on the way down, climbed in for some wicked descending fun (more like "death burritos"). Clear winter days make for incredible vistas. | ||
