My first fourteener! WOOHOO! Hauled a bottle of champagne all the way ... popped the cork on the summit! (That cork now has a place of honor on a shelf in my office :-)

Very high winds made this a tough, cold day. Powder in the trees made the trail invisible. Stick to the ridge and you can't miss. Just keep your distance from the cornice. This was my 7 summit of Quandry.

Went up the easy East Ridge to Quandary's summit. Had the summit to ourselves. Ran into many people on our descent.

I may not have the month (or year) right, but the snowfall was pretty light that year. My first 3rd class-type 14er.

2:45 up on snow all the way from trailhead to summit. Although balmy in the sun at the TH, the themometer on a nearby pack showed just over 2F on the summit. The oils on the plastic lid for my lentil/feta lunch froze solid within seconds of taking the lid off.

Climbed with fellow SP member 'climbhighnow'. A perfect fall day --- brilliant sun and moderate temperatures. Some gusty wind blowing snow early, but lessened towards afternoon. Early season snow mostly blown off or melted. For more detail see the trip report.

A nice winter climb if conditions are perfect, which they were on this day! Snow was nice, weather was nice, barely any wind! Only a few other people.

I'm signing the log because of the effort we put in today! Started off good in the snow but didn't have snowshoes -- we'll know next time. Anyway, got above the tree line and while the wind picked up, we expected that. However, after getting above 13,400, the wind started howling and eventually whited us out. We just couldn't go on in the 60 mph gusts and I had to sit down several times. The trail was a sheet of hard snow and ice, and we decided to call it a day. Passed two groups (4 people total) but they all had snowshoes and cramp-ons. Couldn't drink for 2 hours as my Camelbak froze up, but wasn't too worried.

Made it back to the car ok and counted our blessings. We'll try again in the spring.

Picked a nice day. Was our first 'snow' hike. We didn't pay attention to where we came out of treeline and got lost heading down (we headed down late so there wasn't anybody to ask either). The snow was deep and soft and our snowshoes were sinking 2-3 feet with everystep. Kinda sucked, but we laugh about it now.

Gave up on an attempt at W Ridge after much postholing on the approach. Ended up heading up one of the chutes on the SW face hoping it would go. It did. Excellent 360 degree views from the summit.

Paul Mann and I started at 10:00 AM. The snow was still firm all the way up. Not much post holing. It took us three hours up. We lost the trail a few times on the way up, but once past tree-line, the route is obvious.

We probably descended too fast, my body is still feeling it the next day.

What a great day. Getting above tree-line is so nice.

It was very warm close to 50 most of the day!

Headed up three days after the big unusual snowstorm Colorado had in October 05. There was quite a bit of snow, which made the going get a little tough with some postolling and I never found the trail or the trailhead. Otherwise, its a nice area and I am glad I chose this for my first 14er due to its easily reached summit.

A spectacular October day--next to zero snow on the mountain, zero clouds, almost zero wind. Great scenery and a fun hike with my dad to the top of his first fourteener. A lot of fun!
