Great shot. Looks like you had some interesting weather too. Wind and snow chased me out of the Enchantments on Saturday and I was wondering how you were faring. | | Posted Oct 13, 2003 3:45 pm |

The only way to describe the weather is "nuts". Sat. morning on the hike in we had dry conditions with a cloudy sky overhead but no trace of rain/snow. As soon as we got close to Crater Lake it all came down! Started snowing heavily and visibility went down to tens of yards at most. We set up camp (noon) and wondered what to do with our time. Finally, Haydar and I decided to scramble up Krag Peak (my wife and our dog wisely decided to sit this one out in the comfort of the tent). We had no visibility but the climb was straighforward. Got back to camp, slept, cooked, slept and woke up to clear skies (mostly) on Sunday. Decided to go for Red. As we approached the ridge below the summit it started snowing on us again and continued until we got back to camp. Then sun - snow - sun - snow - sun......all the way to the car! Crazy weather!! Still trying to gather up the right words to sign the summitlog :).
I can only imagine that it must've been MUCH worse up in Washington!!? | | Posted Oct 13, 2003 4:13 pm |
