| alpine345 | fog stumble ![]() Date Climbed: Sep 27, 2005 | |
| Started from buffalo cabin TH. Clouds moved in about 13:00 but no booms and graupel till 14:00, so I only got the W summit before I left. At red buffalo pass I got below the cloud layer. Saw one bear and 5 elk... | ||

| Here's a dumb ass story on this peak. Do not repeat this. I got off work on july 4th and me and a bottle of Jack Daniels went up and had a ball all alone on the summit of red peak. Awesome summit. And we watched all the fire works. I stumbled down below the pass to treeline with no headlamp or light source, and said eh...screw it im sleeping up here and built me a fire and cuddled up around it. Lol...u know the gores are a hidden gem...shhhh...don't tell anyone else. IMHO id rather be on the spiny crest of the gores somewhere than many of the big 54 ant hills. | ||

| Skied the north couloir from the East Summit of Red. We didn't cross the true summit, but didn't look like much more effort to get there. | ||

| A great hike from E Vail up the Gore Creek trail to Red Buffalo Pass, over to Eccles Pass, to the summit of W Demming, down to Eccles Pass, and all the way down to Silverthorne for a beer at the brewery! | ||

| Quick jaunt up West Deming from a pullout along I-70 at Polk Creek, about 6 miles and 3k round trip from this point. Saw a huge elk herd near treeline, I would estimate 70+ head based on what I could count. No wonder this area is so popular with hunters in the fall! | ||

| Summited via South Ridge, nearly snow free in that drainage these days. Would've hung out around for some more 12ers in the region, but nature called and I was fresh out of TP!! Nice day in the Gores yet again. Be back for Deming Drop and Red's South slopes next spring. | ||

| Backpacked in solo from Rock Creek TH. Left the TH at sunset the night before and bivied somewhere near S. Rock Creek. Continued up to Willow Lakes the next morning and improvised a 3rd class route up the N Face/Ridge. Descended by traversing around the summit ridge to the north and east to Pt. 13,005', around to the first Zodiac Spire, and back down to Willow Lakes. Made it back to Rock Creek by mid afternoon--another perfect day in the Gores. | ||

| Great day in the Gores with Mike and Shawn. Made it up in 4 hours thanks to Mike's beastly trail breaking. One of my favorite days in the mountains this year...moderate route, great views, and good company. | ||

| Red Pk was a nice warmup hike going from the Gore Creek TH, a pretty solid 15mi. (did the Grand Traverse the next day). I climbed Uneva peak a few years back on 7/25/04 in a big loop starting at the Gore Creek TH to Red Buffalo Pass, Eccles Pass, Uneva Pass, Uneva summit, to Vail Pass. Nice trip. | ||

| Wasn't sure if I was going to make it to the summit due to the weather forcast, but it ended up being a nice day. Took me alot longer round trip then what I expected. Started at 7:50 and got to the peak at 12:30. Got back to my car at 5:00pm. This is my favorite 13er I've done thus far. Glad to have made the summit, not sure when I would have been able to attempt this one again. | ||

| A very pleasant mountain. Red Peak seems like a Gateway summit to the interior of the Gore Range; It is easier to ascend then many of the more rugged mountains further north yet it shares their scenery and atmosphere. It took me three tries to get up Red Peak so I was happy to finaly experience the summit. It is kind of surreal to look down on the tiny sail boats cruising Lake Dillon from the top of a 13 thousand foot summit. Dogs Sopris and Ray were along for the ride. Thanks to Kane for the information provided on this mountain page. Jon | ||
