Why...are most lookout stations removed or destroyed? Seems it would be better to maintain them for National Forest rentals.

Re: Why...I believe the rental concept came later and here in the northwest back in the 50's, 60's and 70's, the FS seemed to just want to destroy them. I find it sad as I love lookouts. Consider the junk around the remains of many of the peaks and the eyesores the remains have become. Vandals sometimes do them in but look at this one, a great example of what you are asking about.

Re: Why...Funny, I find some lookouts to be eyesores themselves. I think Green Mountain up the Suiattle River must be better off w/o its lookout. And the one on Alpine Lookout on Nason Ridge is about as ugly as they come. Not all lookouts are toothsome.
