Riding The Beast | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||
...mouse click to enlarge... This is an image of a bristlecone pine snag in the White Mountains of California that I made July 3, 2006 while a friend and I backpacked into a remote area outside the Inyo National Forest, Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest reserve. A 4x5 Provia 100F transparency that I exposed through my 90mm Caltar lens late afternoon. I've named the image "Riding The Beast" because the long bent over limb of the dead snag appears with some imagination, to have some whimsicle creatures riding on its long back. The geology here is ancient Cambrian age, dolomite, a white metamorphosized limestone rock that bristlecone pines, pinus longaeva, prefer to grow on at these high elevations. I have a feature article on my website for that backpack at this link: The image will be available as Lightjet fine art print via Gallery B on my below homepage.
