
| The ranger did not allow climbing due to high winds, but I sneaked up and met four others on the mountain. The winds gusted to 90 km/hr, but died down around 11:00. The clouds also lifted, revealing the awesome light-blue acid lake deep in the crater. Near-vertical slopes prevent reaching the lake shore, but fumeroles and floating sulphur scum can be seen from above. A sign warns not to stay more than 15 minutes due to toxic volcanic gases. |
