Rock Islands | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |
Viewed from the first of two significant rock islands in the couloir on the Gardner Headwall of Stockaid Peak. This first island is between 10,500 and 10,600', a bit more than halfway up the couloir. From this island, you can resume snow travel or cross to the second island, which itself gives two choices: cross to the third major rocky area shown, which leads all the way to the summit plateau, or finish up the snow, climbing a nearly vertical headwall 8-10' high at the very end. Expect moderate to tricky Class 3 on the rocks, even some short Class 4 spots. Beartooth Mountains, WY-- July 2008 | Image Type(s): Informational, Scenery |
