From Cliff Lake  Sucess!

Came up N. West ridge. Beautiful views of St. Paul, Chicago, Snowshoe, Elephant and Rock peaks (Just to name a few) from ridge to top. Not as difficult as expected. Lots of goat trails to navigate. Last 500 ft pretty steep with small loose rocks to trip you up. View from top is epic. Looking down at Rock Lake is amazing and the view of Elephant peak and the Libby lakes are awsome. One of my favorite summits in the Cabs so far.

West Ridge  Sucess!

The vegetation on the ridge proper totally destroys the fun that could be had scrambling. We chose to completely bypass it on the descent which can be done all Class 2 on the bear grass and talus to the south of the ridge.

Not an often visited summit. We were only the second party to sign the register thus far in 2010.

West Ridge  Sucess!

This general area of the Cabinets has become a favorite.

Did a three peak traverse: Saint Paul Peak then over to Rock Peak and finished with Chicago Peak on the way out.

After everything that I read, got the impression that Rock Peak was only doable via Class 4 routes. Found this to be erroneous as I observed three different Class 3 routes.

If you stay off the west ridge proper, the Class 4 can be avoided.

Re: West Ridge

Staying off the ridge to the south does avoid some steeper sections. We found the shrubbery on the crest was the most annoying aspect :) How was the scramble up to the top of Chicago?

North Ridge

Climbed with Brian H. Not sure if this ridge will even be there much longer - nasty pile lower down. Decent rock on upper ridge though. Lots of simul with several belayed pitches thrown in. Descended via the west ridge. Some 4th class on the way down.
