Rocky Mtn High 1975 - Yours Truly Hiking Up Flattop Mountain

Yours Truly hiking up Flattop Mountain in July 1975 with Half Mountain and Mount Lady Washington in the background. Don't laugh at the wardrobe choices! And that's a camping permit hanging from my pack. I still have the leather visor I was wearing on that trip. (Thanks Mountain Jim for your help with this picture!) Scanned from Kodak Instamatic slide

Re: Whoa . . .

I think it's my B.C. body (Before Colorado! Before Child!) But I really appreciate the compliment!

Those were the days

Cotton t-shirt, external frame backpack and no trekking poles. I'm glad I got into this stuff after this point in time although I do remember having an olive army-type rucksack as a kid. Good stuff!

Re: Those were the days

Hey Brian, it could have been worse! I actually started backpacking in 1963 with a wooden frame pack and my father's down mummy bag from Army surplus. I quickly moved to a different metal rucksack but I still remember how painful that backpack was.

Thanks for looking at my album!

1975

July, 1975? That takes me back. In July, 1975, I was on the John Muir Trail.

Re: 1975

I really enjoyed your pictures from July '75; especially the trail shots; same sleeping pad and all! Wonderful pictures of Whitney and the moon. I've never hiked in the Sierra but only driven through it once; another place on my bucket list!

You should post these on SP!

Thanks for your support!

Oldie but goodie

That looks like my 1st backpack. My how things have changed! I carry about 1/2 the weight, go twice the distance and am at least twice the age I was when I started backpacking in Big Bend Nat'l Park back in '74. Thank goodness for technology and lightweight material! Love your photos.

Glad you are enjoying 'my blast from the past'! I have 300+ slides being scanned right now so who knows what else in my past is hiding...
