Better than Giant?  Sucess!

Agree that this peak doesn't get enough credit. I liked the little lake visible from the summit and feeling of isolation. Always wanted to come back and climb this from the East during the Fall.

Via Giant  Sucess!

Via Giant  Sucess!

Hit this up after doing Giant. Was all by myself the whole day. Cold down low, nice and frosty up high. There were a few leaves on the trees. Great day.

Via Giant from Chapel Pond  Sucess!

Hit the summit of Giant Mt then followed the foot path over to Rocky Peak Ridge. Our group (of 8) decided that in the col between the two, we would bushwack down to the washbowl. As the creek was not frozen, we 'whacked through some thick brush. Overall a good time was had, and we surprised three other hikers coming down Giant by trampling right out onto the trail from the woods in front of them.

Giant and RPR via Ridge Trail, 2/06  Sucess!

Long sections of water ice on the Ridge Trail. I started late, met several groups coming down while I was going up. Had Giant and RPR to myself. Nice! Light snow limited the views to a few miles, but views of Dix, Nippletop and the Lower Great Range were amazing. View of Giant's backside from RPR was well worth the hike over.

Giant's Little Step Sister  Sucess!

Might was well bag it since it's so close to Giant. I'm wondering now if I could have just followed the brook that runs between Giant and Rocky and skipped the climb back up Rocky.

Route Climbed: From Giant Date Climbed: August 20, 2005  Sucess!

Did this one on a foggy day, 100-ft visibility, but it made for a fascinating krummholz world along the summit ridge. Very celtic. Will do again to get the views. 700-ft drop from Giant's summit to saddle makes for an active day (in the rain!).

Always great views from this peak. In 2001 I watched an awesome sunset over the Champlain Valley.

Route Climbed: Giant-RPR col(1st time); RPR traverse(2nd time) Date Climbed: Sep 3, 2000 and Sep 29, 2002  Sucess!

This is truly one of the most beautiful mountains in the Adirondacks. I defintely recommend starting at the New Russia trailhead, climbing over Bald Peak and Rocky Peak Ridge, and then down the Ridge Trail from Giant. The fall colors were nice, the open ridges of Bald Peak and RPR were nice, and the alpine pond and alpine meadows on RPR are simply spectacular. Over the course of the this hike, you will gain just over 5300 vertical feet and then lose around 4000 vertical feet over the course of this 11-mile traverse hike.

Route Climbed: Traverse over from the Ridge Trail of Giant. Date Climbed: 6/1/03  Sucess!

What a nice exposed summit area. The day we were there we were buffeted with 50 MPH winds, and didn't stay long, but enjoyed the moments were were there. My 9 y/o daughter added a stone to the impresive summit cairn already there.

This traverse adds 2.6 miles and 1400' (over and back) to the Ridge trail route up Giant Mountain.
