Nice hike on a cloudy day  Sucess!

Awesome, super laid-back hike. VERY constant grade makes the ~2300 ft. very easy and enjoyable.

3rd round  Sucess!

I stopped at the trout creek trail parking lot and there was a sign that said mini van parking only and at the trail head, a blue sign with a white woman in a dress on it? So I drove over to the Rooster rock trail, and sure enough I was in the right spot! Room enough for super duties, boats and stuff. Peaked it, ran down 24 days post op(it was only lower back surgery, no big deal.) I ran so fast time slowed down so as the planet in orbit around the Sun did not force me to break the laws of physics by exceeding the speed of light running down the trail. I'm sure you simpletons can't understand this so here iss the cliff notes: I pretty much single handedly saved the planet... At least I bought you all some time.

Second climb  Sucess!

second time to the summit. I am training for the Apocalypse coming in 2012, I climbed up the rooster rock trail and ran back down! It was pretty awesome I feel more ready now for sure. Bring on the volcanoes and asteroids!

great hike  Sucess!

Rooster Rock trail was tiring, but worth the climb. We descended down Trout Creek Trail after reaching the top.....great view and a hot day.

Rooster Rock  Sucess!

It was a cool and windy day and the trail was muddy and wet. There were rhododendrons growing everywhere along the trail. Rooster Rock pinnacle is very interesting and there are even more pinnacles in the area.

Route Climbed: Multiple pinnacles Date Climbed: October 22, 2005  Sucess!

We had a full day of fun climbing on this great October day hopping from one pinnacle to another one. After a steady uphill hike for an hour we first climbed the North Face of Rooster Rock. After a quick lunch on the summit we headed down to Chicken Rock and climbed Rawhide, great fun! Rapped off to the base of Hen Rock and combined several routes starting with the South Crack all the way to the summit in one long fantastic varied pitch which included crack, chimney and slab climbing. It was just about 5pm on our way back as we traversed the south side of Rooster Rock we thought we needed to climb a better? route on Rooster than the North Face so we started crawling hastily the mossy SE side, the second pitch should be better we thought, well at least the moss was dry :) It was getting dark as we got down and hiked out by headlamp. Menagerie offers a lot of fun adventure climbing in a remote setting.

First time in the Menagerie on a 70 degree, sunny October day. Interesting place and fun climbing! We did a "tower trifecta" and hiked down in the dark:

Rooster Rock - Regular Route variation (5.5) - too easy and too short, but still a cool summit.

Chicken Rock - Rawhide (5.8) - Awesome climb! Great exposure and a fun, overhanging crux move.

Hen Rock - South Crack (5.7) + SE Slab (5.9) - Combined pieces of three routes in one pitch to the summit. Little bit of everything - mossy offwidth, crack, and knobby face at the top. Very cool.

Rooster Rock - The Callis SE Face (5.7, 3P). - Ugh - horrible! Thick, cascading green moss on the first pitch, dry flaky runout mossy climbing on the second pitch. The "small bush" growing in the chimney mentioned in the guidebook is a full-grown tree!

Good hike for limbering up. Tough with Jill, though - she goes fast uphill.

A pretty fun easy hike. A lot of rhododendrons are in bloom as well as a little beargrass. A little greater diversity of trees than i had expected. Decent view from summit. Neat rock formations in this area.

Climbed to the top of rooster rock (variation 1a)on a sunny May day--day before Natasha defending her thesis; great way to take her mind off of it.

Two short pitches to the top and one single rope rappel down. Great view from the top next to the remains of the fire lookout.

Hit snow almost right from the start (1300 feet) - patchy at first and continuous at about 2000 feet. Hit about a foot of it at the summit (3600 feet). Great fun little hike!

Nice little hike. Gets pretty steep last half mile after trails merge. Great views of Rooster Rock and other formations from top. Very cool large Madrone trees near the top. Walked across the hwy when we were done and soaked our feet in the chilly South Santiam for a bit.

A forested hike to a rock knoll next to the pinnacle of Rooster Rock. Good views from the canyon of the South Fork Santiam River to the Three Sisters.

5/4/01 - Neat views of rock pinnacles all around (although my pictures don't show it). Wanted to camp at the summit but couldn't find a spot that we could. Had to hike back to the car in the dark and then camped at Fernview Campground. Not bad but don't try to cheat on the fees as the rangers show up early to check the drop box.

6/4/05 - After starting the hike on the longer trail for Dome Rock and getting ticks in the first 100 yards, my girlfriend and I decided to find a trail a bit more maintained so we drove to Rooster which I had not done in years. Went up the Trout Creek Trail again and enjoyed a great hike and super views this time from the viewpoint. There is a summit register (or maybe it was a geocache) at the top. Had great cheeseburgers and Hammerhead Ale afterwards!
