Awsome looking tower!

I see stuff like this and I want to climb it.

By the way, doesn't this one look similar to Stein's Pillar in Oregon: similar-looking?

Re: Awsome looking tower!

Yes the two seem similar from the photos. But is Stein's Pillar also basalt? Anyway I should do a new google research on the climb of Roque Nublo. I was somewhat disappointed with what I got as return earlier this year. It's the national landmark of Gran Canaria and a very popular climbing destination so there must be more.

The routes appear to be heavily bolted. The guy we saw (and cheered) climbing found a bolt every 5 ft. They seemed to be new and solid. Anyway - he cheated - used the bolts to draw himself up. Spaniards! ;-))

Re: Awsome looking tower!

hmmmm, not sure if Steins is basalt? It's some kind of a "compacted-volcanic-ash-derivative" (<--- my highly technical description :) = pretty loose rock.

We also cheated when climbing steins pillar - easiest route goes free at YDS 5.11a = way too hard for my skill :)....or more down to earth has about an 5.8 A2 (<--- pull on pro) rating.
