Start at White River Campground and ascend to the Glacier Basin Campground approximately 3.1 miles. From there ascend the ridge to the Interglacier and onto Steamboat prow at about 9400 feet. This is not a summit route, just a day hike. This is the same route that climbers take to get to Camp Sherman, but at Camp Curtis you turn right to go to the Prow instead of down the ridge to get on the Emmons Glacier.

Route Description

Trail is well maintained up to Glacier Basin. You need to rope up and get on the interglacier from there and ascend the first ridge and traverse due SE towards Camp Curtis. Right before Camp Curtis and the ridge ascend due West towards Steamboat Prow. Views of the Emmons/Winthrop Glacier are incredible from here. You are quite higher than Camp Schurman, and just above the Emmons Flats. Many crevasses and snow bridges on the route due to low snowfall. Be careful!
