Approach


You leave the South Summit Trail (Cold Springs Campground) shortly after the Timberline junction and proceed cross-country pass South Butte. Then traverse the lower Gotchen Galcier east to Sunrise Camp staging area. This puts you at the base of the Mazama Glacier.

Route Description


From Sunrise Camp (8,300') head straight up the Mazama glacier to just below the False Summit where the Mazama Glacier meets the South Climb. Follow the route from the False Summit to the top at 12,276'.

Most certainly Rope up, crampons, ice axe, camera.
