Airport is Malaga.
Drive to Motril and the Orjiva. From there to Capileira. It is possible to drive up another couple of meters with a high clearance vehicle up to where the road is closed.

Route Description

From the trailhead take the old pass road, it's not very steep. Sometimes you can shortcut the turns. At a place called "El Chorillo" (after 2 hours) leave the old road and use a smaller trail (right hand side) up the east face of the mountain.
Take into account that there are no signs, so take a good map with you. Follow the trail slightly under "Mulhacen 2" (3362m) and traverse over rocks (very easy) up to the summit.
Total time ca. 4.30 to 5 hours. You won't be much faster downhill.

Essential Gear

Bring plenty of water. Be prepared for bad weather. A compass is fine.
